It’s Silhouette Challenge Day!!! Fourth of July is right around the corner and it is one of my favorite holidays! This year, I decided to try my hand at star garland lights.
This post has been inspired by a couple of different posts. Back in December, when I was on the Silhouette Design Team, Annie made this stunning light garland. I knew back then I wanted to make one. I was bouncing ideas of my friend Lauren and she sent me this post of star lanterns (gorgeous, right?) it’s by one of our fellow challenge members. I fell in love with one of Debbie’s star designs and knew I wanted to make it.
The star garland was pretty easy to make on my own and took less than an hour. So let’s get started on how I made these lights.
I went easy and decided to use the 3d Star shape found in the Silhouette Online Store. In the Silhouette studio software I added the small circles and the stars on to my 3d star shape. There are two shapes: the front of the star and the back piece.
Once my shapes were cut out of cardstock. I started at the top point, folded along the dash lines. My lovely assistant is showing I folded star. (He likes to point)
I used battery operated lights and secured them to the back piece of the star with glue dots. It just secures them in place inside the star. I secured about 6 lights to every star and left 2 lights out for spacing.
Fold the tabs on the back piece in and using hot glue piece the two sides together. FYI: The picture above doesn’t show the garland with lights. It is the same directions with the lights attached you would just be working around the light strand.
I added a little twine with hot glue to the top of the stars and I was done!
I also made a second garland with smaller stars.
Here is how my summer mantle is looking.
My favorite is what they look like at night!!
