My 5 year old is really excited to go trick or treating this year! His costume (Optimus Prime) is already hanging in his closet. He can’t wait.  I thought it would be fun to come up with a chalkboard sign so that we could count down the days together. It was really easy sign to make! Follow along and I will show you how I made mine.

Here is what you will need:

Silhouette Cameo/Portrait

Wood Plaque (found mine here)

Chalkboard Paint // Paint brush

Vinyl (white/orange)

Hook tool

Contact paper

Start by painting your wood sign with chalkboard paint and let dry. Mine took about 30 minutes to dry.

I designed my sign in the Silhouette Studio and used shapes found in the online Silhouette store. I used these spiderwebs, this label, and this pumpkin. You can choose any font that you like! The fonts I used for the sign are Joelle Charming and Skitch.

I loaded my white vinyl and hit cut.

I used my hook tool to weed out the vinyl that I did not need.

I transferred my vinyl image over using contact paper. I like to transfer my design over in small pieces. I started with my spiderwebs. I place the transfer paper on to my vinyl image and press. The contact paper lifts up my design and I place it on my plaque and peel the contact paper off. Sometimes I do need to rub it to get the vinyl off the contact paper. I found a credit card works well with that!

I added a pop of color with the orange vinyl pumpkin and a orange glittery spider. I am using a chalkboard pen to countdown the days.

I love how it turned out!
