Hi Friends!

Today is Silhouette Challenge day!  Not just any Silhouette Challenge day – it’s the Super Special December Challenge day!! Which means we have a giveaway down below for you to enter!

I am in total holiday crafting mode here! I love making gifts and I wanted to make some quirky nontraditional gifts for some of my close neighbors. I think these little cacti will put a smile on their faces. These little plants will also make a cutegift to give to co-workers. I love these little plants and you don’t have to water them that often, which means they will survive under my watch. 😉
For this project, I used the Silhouette’s Print and Cut feature. It’s one of my favorite features of the Silhouette!

First things, first. You will want to print out the gift tags.  Along with my cactus tag, I also designed a few more gift tags! I’ve been in love with buffalo plaid, if you can’t tell in my design. 😉 Anyways, if you just want to cut these bad boys out by hand you can just download the PDF file here:

I am also including a Print and Cut file ready for the Silhouette Studio. You can download that here and use the Print and Cut feature. It makes cutting out shapes ten times faster.

Make sure the design is inside the registration marks and go to File >> Print.  Print on your printer.

Place the print on the cutting mat making sure it is nice and straight.

Load it into the Silhouette and hit “send to silhouette”, then let the Silhouette do it’s thing.

Bam! 🙂 It’s cut and it’s straight….Oh and my finger don’t hurt from cutting and it did it all in a couple of minutes. YAY! That’s all there is to making some cute tags!

Now if you would like to whip up a few of these Cactus gifts for friends, follow the step below! It’s pretty simple!

You will need:

  • Small Cactus (mine is from Home Depot)
  • Small Pot
  • Ribbon / Hot Glue
  • Chalk Paint
  • Tag and Toothpick (skewer)

I love these little succulents that they sell at Home Depot. They are so tiny and adorable!!

You will want to start by painting your pots. I used chalkboard paint so that I could write their names on the gift. I also painted the inside of the pot about half way down. That way no terracotta will show.

I added a ribbon with a little hot glue to give it a little decoration. I didn’t use much hot glue so they could remove the ribbon after the holidays. I also plan to hand write their names on the little pot.

I added some stones at the bottom for drainage. You can also use gravel. I’ve used fish gravel in the past.

Carefully, take out your plant and plant it into the pot.  I added the white stone around the plant.

I glued a skewer to the back of the tag and placed it in the pot.

Here they are! Ready to go for gifts! I think they will like them.

Don’t go, there is more!!
