Hi!!
I haven’t posted too much this week! It’s been kind of weird week for us. I have been working here and there on the baby’s room. I finally finished the curtains. I can’t wait to show you the final room! It is turning out so cute:)
These are the most easiest *forgiving* curtains to sew up. Here is how I did them:
The hardest part for me is figuring out my measurements. So my window measures about 64″ in length. I want to make two panels instead of one long panel so I divided 64 by 2. Which gives me 32″. Now I always add 1.5″ or 2″ inches to that for my seam and if I make a mistake. I figure I can always take away fabric but can’t always add more fabric. So the final length that I need to cut out is 34″ for one panel. If you wanted to have curtains that have more of a gather you could make them longer but I preferred the straighter look.
Now that I have my length I need to figure out how wide I wanted my curtains. I totally eyeballed what I thought would look good. I got 15″. Now I added 5″ to that measurement to account for the casing I need to make to hang the curtain on plus inseam. If you curtain rod is very wide you will need to adjust and add more inches. If it is a very thin rod you could probably get away with adding only 3 inches. Again, being me, I always add more than I need.
So now I need to cut out two panels that are 32″ x 20″. I also lined these curtains with a white fabric so I needed to also cut out matching white panels.
Now you are ready to sew! Put both panels wrong sides together and sew all the way around leaving the top open. Flip the panel right side out and iron.
To finish off the curtain, I top stitched around the curtain.
Then just hang up and enjoy:)
