I love this time of year and the excitement of pulling out the tree (or buying one if that’s your favorite option) and deciding what I want it to look like this year. It’s like a blank slate each year, and I love the anticipation of putting on some music, getting in the Christmas mood, and decorating the tree! So when Tori suggested we make an ornament, I was thrilled.
I’m Lisa Mabey from Mabey She Made It where I blog about DIY crafts and sewing and I’m excited to be here at Lil’ Mrs. Tori sharing the Woodland Star Ornament with you.
Are you ready to make one? One more look at the finished Woodland Star Ornament:
You’ll need:
- Twigs–fairly thin and straight
- Hand pruner
- A glue gun
- Spray paint
- An evergreen sprig with berries (can be real or faux)
- A cute bird (mine came from Michael’s)
- String
First gather some thin twigs, and cut 10 of about the same width to the same size. Each of my first pieces was about 2″ long.
Cut the ends at an angle so they meet together and start gluing your twig pieces together to form a star outline.
Now fill your star in with other cross pieces, stacking the centers to get a 3-D effect.
I did a cross piece from each of the points to the center first. Then I filled in from the center of each side to the center of the star and finished off with another layer of twigs from the points to the center of the star.
When your star ornament is filled in how you want, take it to your blow dryer and melt away all those tiny little strings that inevitably happen when using a glue gun (see above). Then give it a quick coat of spray paint and let it dry.
To finish, glue your evergreen sprig with berries onto the star so it’s kind of nestled down.
Then add a cardinal and you’re ready to hang it!
Thank you again, Tori for letting me share your space today! I hope you’ve enjoyed making this Woodland Star Ornament with me, and that you’ll come check out some of my other projects (like my Acorn Wreath and Sheet Music Pumpkin) over at Mabey She Made It. I’d also love it if you followed me on on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram!
Love this simple and nature inspired ornament!
Oooo! Do I see some changes over here at Lil Mrs. Tori?! Like that tagline?! (Or maybe it was there the whole time and I was just blind.) And I love the little leaves on your FB, Pinterest, and Instagram widgets. Again, maybe these aren’t changes, I’m just seeing them anew. Either way, I love what you’ve done with the place!
And such a fab guest post! I’m SO diggin’ the rustic glam holiday decor this year, so a woodland star ornament is right up my alley. Thanks for sharing, Lisa! Pinning this right now!
Yes! Yes! Thank you for noticing! I have been working on some little changes here and there! They are small so I was wondering if anyone would notice! I did add some new leaf designs to pretty much everything. I’m still working out the kinks on this new interface/template (i don’t really know what to call it) for the website. It’s like a template but you can change it up to whatever you want. Melissa from Nectar Collective was talking about it. Anyways I downloaded and I love it! Thanks Lauren for pinning! Lisa’s ornament is so cute and would fit right in with your rustic glam holiday!
Very cute idea! Especially, since the woodland theme is everywhere this year, this would go perfectly!
Thanks Candice! It is!! You could do these with some foxes thrown in:)
