Hi Friends!!
I am in the midst of making a valentine’s day project for B’s teacher. I wanted to do a mason jar gift but I wanted to add a little something extra. A little sparkle, if you will. I wanted the mason jar to have a clear glittery look to it. I didn’t want it to be overly glittery or tinted. Just a little sparkle that would catch your eye.
Enter Mod Podge Extreme Glitter! Extreme Glitter!! This stuff is so cool!! Seriously. You get that glittery look without the mess! No glitter to clean up after you are done. Bonus! Unless your into that sort of thing. 😉 No glitter to clean up is one less battle for this momma!
Add about 2 tablespoons of Glitter Mod Podge and a tablespoon of water to the inside of the mason jar. This is just an estimate. The less water you use the more concentrate your glitter will be. Just keep in mind you only need enough water to make the Mod Podge watery. I always start with just a little bit of water. Then stir. You can always add more water if needed.
Stir the mixture together. Then coat the entire jar. I rolled mine upside down and all around over a paper plate to catch any drippings. Try to get an even coat throughout the jar.
Once you have coated the entire jar let it sit upside down for about 30 minutes. I used wax paper to catch all the drippings. Then I lined a cookie sheet with foil and placed them face up to dry out in the oven.
Pop them in the oven and set your timer for 30 minutes. Oven set to about 200. Don’t preheat just let the jars heat up with the oven. You might find you have to leave your jar in a little longer. If you still have some that are white just keep it in the oven. Mod Podge dries clear so if you see white it means that the Mod Podge hasn’t dried all the way. If you can’t stick it back in the oven then just leave it over night to dry. It should be all clear in the morning.
You can also skip the oven all together. If you do it might take a couple of days for the jars to be fully dry.
Viola! A glittery mason jar that is just the right amount of glitter!
For decoration you can add a tea light and some jute. These jars are just for display so don’t add any unwrapped food in them.
I actually turned this cute glitter mason jar into a present for B’s teacher. I can’t wait to show you what it looks like tomorrow!! Be sure to come back, it’s really adorable!
I used 16 oz wide mouth mason jars. You can find them here:Jarden Home Brands 4Pk 16Oz Platinum Jars 1440061180 Canning Jars

I absolutely love how these turned out. I had no idea there was glitter mod podge… I may need to make a quick run to Hobby Lobby soon. Thanks for sharing.
My mind was blown too when I saw it. Glitter and Mod Podge is like the sweetest combo ever! Almost as good as PB&J. 😉 Hope you are having a great week!
I just tried making this and some sides of the jar were still very white, not clear like the others. Help! What did I do wrong!? lol
Oh no! Just put the jars back in the oven for a little longer. It won’t hurt them to stay in there until they dry out completely. The white you are seeing is just the Mod Podge that hasn’t dried fully. One of my jars did this and I just let that one sit over night. Mod Podge dries clear so once it is dried the white will be gone. I promise. I think I had put a little extra Mod Podge in that jar! When it did dry the sides of that particular one were extra sparkly.
Awesome! Thank you so much. I’ve never used Mod Podge before lol
When putting the mason jars in the oven are they still upside down (opening of jar down) on the wax paper? Didn’t the wax paper melt in the oven?
I have the same questions as the person above.
I am so sorry! I should of explained it better. I actually only used the wax paper to air dry the mason jars on. In the picture I just show the one drying on a plate but I actually made quite a few that day. When I put them in the oven I just lined a cookie sheet with foil and placed them face up to dry out. You can also skip the oven all together and let them air dry. This might take a couple of days to achieve though. I am fixing my post now. Thanks for the question.
I could not find that exact glitter mod podge but found mod podge sparkle and they turned out great! Thank you 🙂
Oh good to know it works with the sparkle too!!!
Hi so cute. Did you have to put mod lodge on the outside as well, or just the inside?
Hi this is such a great idea! I was wondering if the jar was bigger, the regular size jar how many tablespoons would you recommend to use or should I just double the measurements you have?
