*Please know that I received markers from BIC to use in this post. As always, my review and thoughts are all my own.**
I’ve been updating my craft area and I wanted to bring in a little of my blog’s personality on my craft walls. If you have seen my Facebook cover picture you might have noticed the hexagon graphic. That was my inspiration for this project. I also just really like hexagons!
I didn’t want to free hand the print so I drew them first in Illustrator. I printed my design on card stock. I made the hexagons a very light gray. You can barely see that they are even there.
The hardest part of this project was picking the colors! I am obsessed with this marker pack and it has so many colors to choose from. The other thing that is great about these markers is the case it comes in. I love that I have a sturdy place to keep them all organized.
I decided to go with a few colors that matched the colors of my craft area. Not only does this pack have some great colors the names are so fun. For this project I used:
Oceanview Blue
Peach Parfait
Stone Grey
Tiki Hut Tan
Tranquil Teal
Here you can see the very faint hexagons. Once you pick your colors, just fill in the hexagons.
That is all there is to it! If you would like the PDF file of the hexagons to make your own art just click on the link below. It is a 5 x 7 print.
Have fun updating your walls with this fun geometric design! Oh and if you like that candle holder, check out the tutorial from my friend Amy at Homey! Oh My!
Have a great weekend!

You clearly have such a designer’s eye! I would have never thought something like a hexagon pattern would make such COOL art, but it totally does! Especially with those gorgeous marker colors. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks Lauren!! I love hexagon patterns. I went to a quilt show last year and fell in love. 🙂 Hexagons have been popping up everywhere in my house lately 😉 I also have a hexagon quilt that I need to start. One day!
That looks wonderful! I can imagine a really huge canvas of geometric BIC shapes that fills half a wall would be incredible too – and the range of colours available means that you could so easily tailor it to match any decor. I love drawing with BICs myself, especially the really fine ones. They don’t leak half as badly as sharpies do (and they don’t smell as bad either), and at $20 for a full set they’re definitely a thrifty way to create custom artwork. Most of my marker stuff is still awaiting completion so I can’t show it off yet (it’s fun to just work on them a bit at a time as a nice chill-out session) but just to show what BICs can do, a lady that I know made this gorgeous portrait entirely with markers (just the type you can buy from officeworks) and uploaded this process video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0OC-zFc7BA
Hi Greta! A large geometric print would be pretty neat to do!! Geometric art is pretty popular for decor these days. You have my wheels turning now with a larger sized hexagon piece! I agree with the smell of sharpies. They can be a little overpowering.
Wow that portrait is amazing! Thank you for sharing. That is some amazing talent. Please share you art when it is completed!! I would love to see it!
Very cute! I would love that on a grand scale. Hmm ….

Such a cute simple idea which looks absolutely beautiful.
I love me a good hex pattern and you totally pulled it off. Perfect color choices, too! Thanks for sharing at our Link it or Lump it party!
Thanks Amy!!! 🙂
The colours work really well together, and I love the hexagons too! This idea lends it’s self to all sorts of projects too, a background paper for scrapbooking or card making, fancying up a plain note book or folder – ooo, endless possibilities!
