It’s Silhouette Challenge Day!!! Fourth of July is right around the corner and it is one of my favorite holidays! This year, I decided to try my hand at star garland lights.
This post has been inspired by a couple of different posts. Back in December, when I was on the Silhouette Design Team, Annie made this stunning light garland. I knew back then I wanted to make one. I was bouncing ideas of my friend Lauren and she sent me this post of star lanterns (gorgeous, right?) it’s by one of our fellow challenge members. I fell in love with one of Debbie’s star designs and knew I wanted to make it.
The star garland was pretty easy to make on my own and took less than an hour. So let’s get started on how I made these lights.
I went easy and decided to use the 3d Star shape found in the Silhouette Online Store. In the Silhouette studio software I added the small circles and the stars on to my 3d star shape. There are two shapes: the front of the star and the back piece.
Once my shapes were cut out of cardstock. I started at the top point, folded along the dash lines. My lovely assistant is showing I folded star. (He likes to point)
I used battery operated lights and secured them to the back piece of the star with glue dots. It just secures them in place inside the star. I secured about 6 lights to every star and left 2 lights out for spacing.
Fold the tabs on the back piece in and using hot glue piece the two sides together. FYI: The picture above doesn’t show the garland with lights. It is the same directions with the lights attached you would just be working around the light strand.
I added a little twine with hot glue to the top of the stars and I was done!
I also made a second garland with smaller stars.
Here is how my summer mantle is looking.
My favorite is what they look like at night!!

Oh my gosh, Tori! These are stunning!!
Thanks Amy!
Tori – I love these! They look amazing, and the extra addition of the string of lights is just perfect. Once upon a time I was of the beleif that Christmas lights were best left for Christmas. Every day I’m seeing more and more uses that tear that belief to shreds. Yours is one of those!
Thanks Kristy! Yes!! I love using Christmas lights…I may have been that girl that had a strand in her room as a teenager 😉 I even have some still up from Christmas wrapped around a few logs in my fireplace. It makes the place so homey:) I can’t take them down!
Oh, I love these!! What a great idea Tori!
Thanks Emily!
Tori,
You’re paper stars are so festive! I especially love your addition of lights to make them extra special. I’m definitely going to give that a try!

I really need to get a silhouette! You can make so many cool things and I’d love to make some 4th of july decor. Its my favorite holiday. I’d love for you to link up to the Be. YOU. tiful link party. Live Thursdays at 12am PST. Come on by! Pinning!
Great star lanterns. I would love it if you joined and contribute your awesome posts at my link party at City of Creative Dreams, starts on Fridays 😀 Hope to see you there at City of Creative Dreams Link Party.
Tori! I’m still so blown away by these – – and that you figured out to make them from (wait for it) PAPER! Seriously, it just opens up a whole new world of possibility once we can create 3D objects out of paper, doesn’t it? I felt that way when I tackled the flower tab boxes for Mother’s Day. Another fab “fantel” display from you, friend!
