DIY Summer Toddler Shirt

It’s Silhouette Challenge day!! Yay! This month’s challenge was “my favorite things”.  Well…this project covers a lot of my favorite things.  I love that the Silhouette can give me the ability to make the cutest shirts for my boys.  I am even starting to get request from my oldest on what he wants on his next shirt. How fun is that? He is evening joining in on the creative process with me.  The other aspect that this project covers is that I absolutely love summer! It’s my favorite season!! So what better way to celebrate my favorite season with a little SUN FUN shirt. We definitely have a lot of fun in the sun during summer 😉

This project was very simple to pull off.  The overall design of the shirt was totally inspired by this pin. I went to the Silhouette Online store and I used the Sunglasses graphic by Sarah Bailey.  The font I used is also from the Silhouette Store and it’s called LW Daisy Font by Lori Whitlock.

I first cut out all of my heat transfer vinyl shapes and used the hook tool to weed the vinyl. The shiny glittery HTV that make up the glass lenses is the black glitter HTV from Silhouette. I love the shimmery look it gives to the sunglasses!

I simply placed the graphic on my shirt and using a very thin cloth I pressed. Here is a tip when layering HTV: Don’t leave the iron on it as long you do for your first piece.  I’m not exactly sure why but that 2nd layer on top of HTV seems to adhere very quickly. I give it a quick press like 10 seconds. Then, I pull off the plastic transfer sheet as soon as I can. I lay my thin cloth over the design and press again. I often give my design a few hard presses with a little cool time in between each press. Be sure to wash inside out to prevent any peeling!

FUN in the sun shirt
Now it’s time for a little modeling 🙂 I think this is the perfect summer shirt for my munchkin. I think he likes it too….or maybe he was just stocked to play with my shades. 🙂
